| The Explorer's Guide to Death Valley National Park 381 pages
Written by an ex-superintendent of the park. It has detailed descriptions of roads and hikes. However, it is not a good first book because it is mostly dense detail in mile by mile descriptions of a route. I used it mostly as a reference. |

| National Geographic Trails Illustrated Map of Death Valley 26" x 38"
The best and most detailed map of the park but the park is split between the front and back so it's hard to use while driving. |

| Death Valley Backcountry Roads 16" x 23"
This map is a necessity if you're doing primitive camping since it has yellow shading over the no-camping areas. Free at the visitor center. Also downloadable as a pdf: Backcountry Roads.pdf (It takes a minute or two to display--even with a fast internet connection.) |
